SLED - South Carolina Law Enforcement Division
Goal: To provide name-based criminal history background checks to the public. Reviewed, logged, and processed 47,774 record requests and 62,384 applications for concealed weapon permits and security guard and private investigator licenses received by mail in 2019, an average 444 requests and applications each workday.

A non-refundable fee of $25.00 will be charged for a South Carolina criminal records check. Most major credit/debit cards are accepted. An additional $1.00 convenience fee is required for online background searches. The convenience fee does not apply to mail-in requests. SLED does not retain any portion of the convenience fee.

The SLED database only returns criminal record information from South Carolina. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations offers an online Georgia Felon Search. All you need is a name and date of birth. The fee for each search is $15.

The SC State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) provides criminal background checks. These checks only cover SC criminal records. National criminal records checks are also available, but only under certain circumstances. These checks cost $25 in most cases but certain charitable and government organizations are eligible for special pricing.

If the criminal records check is required to be notarized or certified, you must specifically state that the results must be notarized and/or certified.
